Get the one-off chance to have a photograph conserved or restored, allowing it to be treasured in years to come

26 Oct 2021

We all have treasured photos of our families, friends, pets, and the places we love. Some of us are even lucky enough to have inherited photos from previous generations! Yet regardless of the content, looking at back at old photos is a wonderful way to expand our imaginations, transport us back to a ‘happy place’, and fondly remember those no longer with us.

Yet capturing a precious, fleeting moment in a physical photograph is not only a lost art, but one especially prone to deterioration. Tearing, cracking, and fading are extremely common, and without proper conservation treatment, the damage only worsens to the point where you might lose the subject completely. With no backup!

This is why Icon is launching a raffle to give you the chance to have a photograph conserved or restored. Whether future-proofing an image for the next generation, or restoring something beloved for yourself, it’s an exciting opportunity to rediscover the past.

Each raffle ticket costs £5. You can buy as many tickets as you'd like - the more tickets you buy, the greater the chance of winning!

We will then match the winning entrant with a conservator working in their local area, and arrange a consultation for you to share and discuss your chosen image.

Any photograph is eligible, though if the item is in very bad condition, you may need to pay additional fees or work with the conservator to determine which service they can provide. The raffle will be open for 2 weeks and the winner will be chosen on 11 November 2021.

Icon is a charity and the professional body for the conservation profession. From the Magna Carta to your grandmother’s jewellery to your favourite photograph, our members understand and value the objects that matter to you; skilfully safeguarding them against decay and neglect. By taking part in our raffle you can support our work and help us ensure that your stories and memories survive for the enjoyment of present and future generations.
