David Orr ACR is Castle and Collections Manager at Hillsborough Castle for Historic Royal Palaces.
As an accredited conservator he has overseen the collections at the castle for over 8 years with building up experience that ranges from collections management, salvage to supervising on site treatment projects. David graduated from West Dean College, setting up a business in metalwork conservation in Northern Ireland, he gained his experience from restoring, maintaining, and operating steam locomotives from a young age.
David is a keen advocate for conservation, being engaged and challenged on completing projects that will help to protect collections but also highlight conservation as a discipline.
Claire Magill ACR is an accredited conservator with over 25 years’ experience caring for historic collections across Ireland, the UK, and Europe. Passionate about conservation in Northern Ireland, she specialises in ceramics, glass, and preventive conservation.
Claire works with museums and historic houses to strengthen resilience, developing practical, solutions‑focused approaches to risk management, salvage, and disaster planning. She has contributed to major projects including the Mount Stewart building programme, the Congress of Vienna Chairs, and the Central Hall floor project, embedding conservation and emergency preparedness within complex programmes of work.
An experienced trainer and sector leader, Claire supports staff and volunteers through hands‑on training and contributes to professional standards as a PACR assessor, ICRI CPD panel member, and co‑founder of the ICON Northern Ireland Working Group.
