As part of the Oxford Conservation Consortium (OCC), the Library shares OCC’s aim to advance education for the public benefit through the preservation and maintenance of educational and historic materials and documents.
The Library supports this charitable object by providing OCC members and conservators - in the first instance - with information on conservation and preservation, but serves the wider conservation community and public. They are open by appointment to any reader with an interest in consulting the collection and are currently developing new services and resources- in particular annotated Subject Bibliographies giving a specialist’s ‘top ten’ on their subject. Icon members are welcome to request scans of material from the library’s print collections, for small quantities without charge (though on a cost-recovery basis for larger amounts - at the Librarian’s discretion). The Collection and Services
The Chantry Library’s strength is in paper- and book-related material, and they have a comprehensive collection of conference papers, plus technical ‘grey’ literature not found in other collections. Several significant donations have been received in the past year, namely David Pinniger’s collection of articles/offprints on integrated pest management, and Fred Bearman’s offprint/research collection; other supporters have made very welcome donations from their own libraries and publishing activities. The main book, journal, and conference collections are catalogued on SOLO (solo.bodleian.ox.ac.uk), the University of Oxford’s union catalogue.
