I am a student studying the Conservation of Easel painting, especially interested in the conservation of modern painting.
I like studying modern materials' physical properties. Many modern paint films are water-sensitive thus most traditional cleaning methods cannot apply. I hope to find different approaches to deal with it and eventually become confident in conserving modern paintings.
I joined the conservation department of the Hong Kong government for placement and participated in the research on konjac/xanthan hydrogel used in surface cleaning. Hydrogel delivers moisture slowly, therefore is a possible alternative for water-sensitive objects. (see more on the website below)
I’m currently working on my dissertation project, which is about a modern binding medium - alkyd resin. I will test the water sensitivities of various commercial alkyd mediums in commercial oil paint. I hope to volunteer in a lab/studio which can support my development in knowing alkyd and other modern oil paint materials.
