The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) is seeking a highly motivated Conservator to join their Collections Conservation and Management team.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to help care for and conserve Scotland’s national heritage across thirteen properties in the North East region.

About the Role 

This role combines regional preventive conservation support with national strategic leadership, offering the chance to influence Trust-wide initiatives. Depending on your expertise, you'll lead nationally on either:

  • Environmental monitoring and control, or
  • Conservation standards and training.

As part of a dynamic, regionally embedded team, you'll work closely with regional Surveyors, Curators, and property teams to ensure the best care for collections, which include:

  • Decorative arts
  • Paintings
  • Furniture
  • Textiles
  • Natural history specimens
  • Glass and ceramics
  • Books

You will report centrally to the Collections Manager, supporting property teams to deliver exceptional visitor experiences while ensuring the long-term preservation of our collections. 

About You 

We are looking for a skilled and versatile Conservator with:

  • Experience across a range of materials
  • Strong preventive conservation knowledge
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills
  • Confidence working across multiple sites and with cross-functional teams
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

Location & Travel

  • Primary base: Crathes Castle Regional Office, Aberdeenshire
  • Regular travel to regional properties, Edinburgh, and other Trust locations across Scotland is required. A Driving Licence, valid for driving within the UK, and a willingness to travel is essential.
