The University of Glasgow are looking to recruit a Book Conservator to bring specialist book conservation skills and expertise in undertaking interventive conservation work on items from Archives & Special Collections.

The Archives and Special Collections team is responsible for the preservation, management and access to the University’s rich unique and distinctive collections: https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/archivespecialcollections/

The postholder will have responsibility for the conservation and preservation of bound material held across Archives & Special Collections. However, where appropriate to their expertise and skills, they may also contribute to the conservation and preservation of the wider collections including papers, photographs and other unbound archive material.

While the focus of their remit will be on practical bench based interventive conservation work, they will provide conservation support and work closely with the University of Glasgow Photography Unit and project team to ensure a smooth workflow for the digitisation of material identified through the AHRC funded project How-to Books: https://howtobook.eu/

The postholder will also be expected to contribute to the wider preservation remit of the department, including training, collection surveys, assessments for teaching, and outreach.

This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and fixed term to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months or until the substantive postholder returns.
