Paintings Group: A Little Painter Who is in the House Cleaning Pictures - Early Restorers at the National Trust

A talk by Christine Sitwell ACR on the history of conservation and restoration at National Trust houses

In 1996, a conference entitled “Studies in the History of Painting Restoration” presented papers on historic restoration practices in England, France, the Netherlands and Spain.

Christine Sitwell ACR contributed to these papers by describing the work of Henry Bolton, a 19th century restorer, who worked in various country houses.

This presentation will include Christine's additional research into National Trust archives to further document the work of restorers and add to the work of other researchers such as Jacob Simon and Morwenna Blewett.
