This seminar will look at adhesives from a chemistry perspective.

In recognition of their importance to conservators and cultural heritage caretakers, it will examine adhesion, consolidaiton, different types of adhesives and their properties. It will look in depth at one of the only adhesives designed for culutral heritage and in particular how its components work together to make a good adhesive. 

Rebecca Ploeger is an Associate Professor of Conservation Science at the Garman Art Conservation Department at SUNY Buffalo State University (Buffalo, NY, USA), and is responsible for the organic chemistry and preventive conservation portions of the science curriculum.  Her main interests are in the design, characterization, and stability of polymeric materials used in cultural heritage.

There will be a 55 minute presentation followed by 15 minutes of discussion.
