Multi-skilled Artisans qualified and experienced in the conservation of stained glass, historic glazing and associated metalwork
Martin Johnson & Co are a company of multi-skilled craftsmen and women, specialising in the conservation and restoration of stained glass and historic windows.
Established in 1986 by Martin Johnson ACR, we work extensively for conservation bodies such as English Heritage and the National Trust. We provide a comprehensive service which includes the restoration of historic metal work, the fabrication of new bespoke window casements & stainless steel guards, and Environmental Protective Glazing
The conservation of stained glass and historic glazing, and those responsible for its care, have benefitted from our concentrated efforts for nearly 40 years.
We have a credible history of giving sound, expert advice, and undertake each conservation project with the utmost care, in constant consultation with the client and appropriate advisory bodies.
The conservation of plain glazing is afforded the same care and consideration as painted and stained glass.
In addition to our dedicated work on many ecclesiastical properties, we have worked extensively for the National Trust, English Heritage, Local Authorities, the Landmark Trust and the Churches Conservation Trust.
Our experience and understanding of the relationship between glazing, ventilators and support systems allows us to conserve, replicate or make new with accuracy and compatibility.
We have the skills to design and manufacture all types of metalwork in our purpose-built premises: from new casements and window ferramenta, to large-scale framework for domes and rooflights.
We provide an expert consultancy service, with a long and credible record of producing detailed condition reports and surveys. These are comprehensive, directive and invaluable in supporting funding applications and for project-specific information.
We have compiled reports and guidance for projects nationwide, including Lambeth Palace London, Wakefield Cathedral, Leeds Methodist Mission, Halifax Town Hall, Bellister Castle Northumberland, Aylesbury St Mary’s and Ripon Cathedral.

We have used Martin Johnson Glass on a number of occasions to help us with some quite specialist projects. Their professionalism, enthusiasm and attention to detail along with their skills, knowledge and experience makes them a safe pair of hands for specialist glazing repair and restoration. Projects have included stained glass repair and cleaning, installation of isothermal glazing, leaded light repairs and most recently the reglazing of a set of circular tapered lanterns. We would not hesitate to work with them in the future.
