Lecture 4 - Arantza Dobbels

Introduction to Icon for students

Arantza Dobbels, Project Conservator, The National Archives, & BPG Student Liaison Officer

Overview

In this informal talk Arantza will introduce what ICON is and how the Book and Paper Group sits within the institution. She will explain what the ICON B&PG does and how we can provide the guidance to students, whether it is from finding funding opportunities to helpful resources. This will also be an open discussion for anyone interested in sharing their opinions or getting their questions answered. We are always looking for new ways of helping students, and hearing directly from them provides great insight. As an emerging conservator and recent graduate herself, Arantza is also very happy to provide a bit of insight of what it feels like to start your first conservation job, and share some tips that helped her start her career.

About the speaker

Arantza is the Student Liaison Officer for the Icon Book and Paper group, and as such she aims to communicate with students and staff in conservation education, in order to provide support and guidance. As a recent conservation graduate herself, she understands the concerns of students, and hopes to make their voices heard within the wider conservation community. She is also a Project Conservator with the Digitisation Team at The National Archives, and the current Student Liaison Officer for the ICON Book and Paper Group. She graduated from Camberwell College of Arts with an MA Conservation in 2019.
