Icon Introduces Career Break Policy to Better Support Members

Taking time away from professional practice? Icon’s Career Break and Membership Fees Policy ensures members stay supported and connected throughout life’s changes.

01 Mar 2026

In response to member feedback, Icon has introduced a Career Break and Membership Fees Policy to provide clearer, flexible support during periods of temporary professional inactivity.

We recognise the importance of supporting members who are on, or may need to take, a career break and are not actively engaged in professional work. This policy outlines Icon’s approach to offering that support in a structured and accessible way.

Who is Eligible for a Career Break?

Members may be eligible for a career break under a range of circumstances, including:

  • Substantial caring responsibilities
  • Formal parental leave
  • Serious health concerns
  • Other exceptional circumstances that may result in temporary professional inactivity

These criteria are intended to reflect the varied life situations that may require time away from professional practice. The policy ensures members have a clear route to request a career break and access appropriate support during this period.

Supporting Members Throughout Every Stage

The Career Break Policy provides guidance, practical steps, and reassurance for members during a period of temporary professional inactivity. To ensure it remains relevant and aligned with sector guidance and regulations, the policy will be reviewed every three years.

These measures are designed to help members feel supported, connected, and confident while taking time away from professional activity.
