The Jewish Museum London is proud to provide a range of items and images from Holocaust survivor Leon Greenman's life for display in the gallery dedicated in his honour at the National Holocaust Centre and Museum.

British-born Greenman was born in London but was living in the Netherlands at the time of the Nazi occupation. Unable to demonstrate his family's British identity,  Greenman along with his wife Else and son Barney were sent to the deportation camp Westerbork and then onto Auschwitz-Birkenau where Greenman's wife and son were mudered upon arrival. Greenman surived 18 months in concretation and labour camps, eventually ending up at Buchenwald, which was liberated by the US Army in April 1945.

Following the end of World War II, Greenman made a promise to tell his story and raise awareness of the events of the Holocaust to the outside world - a promise he kept from 1946 until his death in March 2008.

As of September 2023, the Jewish Museum London has been operating as a museum without walls, and their collections can now be seen in a growing number of venues, inclouding Museum of London Docklands, the Faith Museum in County Durham, and JW3, whilst it looks for a new permanent home.
