Icon is now accepting applications for the Chair of its Board of Trustees
The Chair works closely with the Board of Trustees and the Chief Executive to ensure strong governance, clear strategic leadership and effective decision-making. As Chair, you will lead board meetings, support trustees in fulfilling their responsibilities, and help ensure that Icon continues to operate in line with its charitable objectives, values and legal obligations.
Over the coming years, the Chair will play a key role in guiding Icon through a period of development and change, including supporting progress towards Royal Charter. The role also involves representing Icon externally when appropriate, acting as an ambassador for the organisation and for the profession more widely.
We are looking for someone who is committed to Icon’s aims and values, and who brings experience of governance, leadership and strategic thinking at a senior level. You should bring a strong understanding of, or affinity with, the heritage and conservation sector. The successful candidate will be collaborative, thoughtful and confident, with the ability to build positive relationships and encourage inclusive, constructive discussion at board level.
The Chair role is unpaid, but reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The time commitment includes attending board meetings, committee meetings as required, and regular contact with the Chief Executive.
This is a chance to make a meaningful contribution to Icon and to the future of the conservation profession.
You can find full details about the role, including its responsibilities and person specification in the Chair of the Board of Trustees Recruitment Pack below.
Details of how to apply can be found on the Chair of the Board of Trustees role posting. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 11 February 2026 at 5PM.
