Led by Lesley Scott ACR, an Object and Preventive Conservator experienced in disaster preparedness planning, mentoring and training teams for response and salvage recovery.
Session 1: PREPARE
Time: 10:30 – 12:15
An introduction to the importance of planning and having robust systems in place, exploring the use of Emergency Planning as a tool to manage any incident.
Session 2: RESPOND
Time: 13:00 – 14:30
A participatory session looking at what happens during an incident or an emergency through interactive scenarios exploring roles, responsibilities and ways to establish mitigating procedures.
Session 3: RECOVER
Time: 14:45- 16:00
Reviewing and discussing how you deal with the after effects of an incident or emergency, ensure safety, salvage and from lessons learnt update and revise plans.
Lesley has been involved in emergency planning since she set up a disaster response group in Cheshire in the 1990s, working with Museums Galleries Commission and Council Museum of Wales. Continuing to be involved with local authority and independent museums in risk mitigation, storage design, object movement and remedial conservation of water damaged material Lesley has experience of writing plans, training teams and individuals, establishing emergency salvage equipment, triage and treatment of water damaged collections.
Lesley went on to advise museums in Scotland for Accreditation in having a workable emergency plan whilst working at Museums Galleries Scotland. In her current role at National Trust for Scotland Lesley is the lead Conservator for Emergency Planning for collections and interiors and is a committee member of the Edinburgh Emergency Response Network Group.
