Trustee

The Rory Young House (Deadline 1/9/2026)

09 Jul 2026
We are seeking an individual to bring key skills to the Board and are keen to hear from candidates with relevant experience in museum or attraction curation, heritage interpretation, and visitor experience to help guide the charity's work in conserving, presenting, and sharing the RYH with the public.

While others may ultimately manage day-to-day operations, the RYH trustees will play a strong operational role in these early years and be quite 'hands-on'. A strategic contribution will also be needed, with the ability to advise at trustee level by helping shape the charity's strategic direction, priorities, and long-term sustainability.

About you

  • Museum curation and collections expertise: Experience in museum or heritage curation, conservation of materials, including developing displays, exhibitions, interpretation materials, object selection, storytelling, and collections-based engagement.
  • Visitor experience development: A strong understanding of how visitors interact with heritage sites, including experience designing or improving visitor journeys, access, engagement, learning opportunities, and audience satisfaction.
  • Heritage interpretation and storytelling: Ability to translate historical, architectural, and cultural information into compelling narratives that connect with diverse audiences.
  • Audience development and inclusion: Experience identifying and responding to different audiences, improving accessibility, and creating welcoming experiences for communities, families, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Planning exhibitions, events, learning activities, practical skills training, talks, or public programmes that increase engagement with historic places.
  • Awareness of how digital tools, online content, interactive interpretation, and new technologies can enhance visitor engagement will be useful in discussions with the project director and in the evolution of the visitor experience.
