The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.

As part of the Collections Services, the Conservation and Technical team are responsible for delivering conservation, collection display and collection management processes for the Royal Armouries.

For this exciting opportunity the Royal Armouries is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Preventive Conservator – Projects to join the Conservation and Technical team. This role involves the development and delivery of aspects of a proactive preventive conservation programme. With colleagues you will provide integrated preventive care for the Royal Armouries collections to maintain and develop collections care standards.

About the role

The role requires a flexible and pragmatic approach to work, excellent planning and organisational skills and an ability to work to tight deadlines. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are also essential requirements. You will possess experience of using environmental monitoring systems, implementing emergency response/salvage processes and of delivering collection storage related activities.

You will join a dedicated team which includes a Conservation and Technical Manager, Conservators, a Preventive Conservator, Display Technicians and a Collections Care Officer.

This position is a 2-year (24-months) fixed-term role, working 36 hours per week (5 days out of 7). Weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working will occasionally be required, as will some travel.
