LED bulbs

Does anyone have experience of retro fitting LED bulbs into Halogen lamps? Our lamps are Erco and we have a mixture of halogens on one gallery and LEDS in the other two galleries (because we could not afford to replace them all at once). I have now found that the LED lamps are starting to fail after 8 years and will cost a lot of money to fix. This has made me quite reluctant to switch over to LED lamps in the remaining gallery, so I am considering just replacing the halogen bulbs in the old lamps with LED bulbs. They are still quite expensive but worth the investment. Would be good to know if anyone else has tried this.

Hello Jennifer. I don't have experience of using LEDs in Halogen fittings. I do have a comment that might help though. I spent some time talking about LEDs with a lighting designer. He noted that although the light that comes off LEDs is cold, the lamps can get quite hot and if the fittings don't vent the heat away adequately they will fail. I wondered if your lamps don't have enough ventilation, which might be why they have failed? This could be an issue with reusing halogen fittings - talk to a lighting designer.
