Think Sustainably

For events and Committee activities

For Committees

Consider how to travel to your meetings and events, prioritise public transport where possible.

Consider your online storage; do you have lots of old and unused documents? Delete them, as everything stored on the internet or Cloud requires power to enable this.

For Events

Venue:

Do your research; is it accessible for all guests, does it have recycling facilities, does it have a sustainability policy?

Catering:

We encourage vegetarian or vegan catering, to reduce global greenhouse gases produced by the meat industry. Avoid over ordering by asking attendees when they book if they need lunch, and bring containers to take away excess food. Encourage participants to bring refillable bottles and fill jugs with tap water instead of buying plastic bottles.

Travel:

Check your venue location and distance from public transport, walking and cycling before confirming your venue. If participants drive, encourage them to car share. You could even share names of people who will be driving and are happy to car share with other guests.

Materials:

Consider how much paper you need for an event, can it be shared online in advance? Can it be printed on recycled paper? Know your attendee numbers, and try not to over order.

Community:

Think local, research local businesses to provide the services you need as this will reduce fuel use and support the area. Are there opportunities for volunteers?
