Icon Accreditation is built on peer review and depends on the contribution of experienced Accredited Conservator-Restorers who volunteer their time and expertise.
There are several ways ACR members can support the process. Pathway Mentors help conservators prepare for accreditation by providing guidance and encouragement as they develop their evidence. End-Point Assessors and Specialist Advisors take part in formal assessments, reviewing evidence and contributing their professional judgement. Members of the Accreditation Moderation Committee provide an additional level of quality assurance, helping ensure assessment decisions are fair, consistent and properly evidenced. CPD Readers support accredited members after assessment by reviewing CPD Recall submissions.
Volunteering is an opportunity to contribute directly to the development of the profession and help maintain the integrity and consistency of Icon Accreditation. It can also provide valuable professional development, offering opportunities to strengthen assessment, mentoring and review skills, reflect on professional standards and learn from the practice of other conservators.
Training and guidance are provided for each role, with different levels of commitment depending on the activity. Some roles require previous assessment or mentoring experience, while others provide opportunities to develop these skills.
By volunteering, ACR members help sustain a robust, profession-led accreditation system for the whole conservation community.
