Join Icon Scotland for the 29th annual Plenderleith Memorial Lecture with a talk by Rosina Herrera
Join Icon Scotland for the 29th Annual Plenderleith Memorial Lecture, an event in memory of Dundonian Dr Harold Plenderleith (1898 – 1996), one of the key founders of modern conservation.
The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception, and the opportunity to chat with other conservators.
Our invited speaker this year is Rosina Herrera, an art historian and paper conservator whose international career has included roles at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Since returning to Valencia in 2023, Rosina has become one of the professionals leading the Salvem les Fotos project, a major initiative established in response to the devastating floods of October 2024 in Valencia, Spain. In her lecture, she will reflect on the recovery of hundreds of thousands of photographs and other family treasures affected by the disaster, exploring how conservation, community engagement and collaboration can help preserve both cultural heritage and personal memory in the aftermath of a crisis.
This hybrid event will take place both on Zoom and at the Augustine United Church in Edinburgh, a 10-minute walk away from Waverley train station.
