Fees and deadlines

Understanding the costs, payment options and key deadlines involved will help you plan your accreditation journey with confidence.

The full assessment fee is £950.

The majority of this fee is used to pay Assessors for the significant amount of professional time involved in reviewing portfolios, preparing for and conducting the Assessment Discussion, and producing a detailed assessment report. The remainder contributes to the costs of delivering and administering the Accreditation scheme, including e-portfolio software and, where required, assessor travel and subsistence.

Icon does not make a profit from Accreditation fees. The fee also does not reflect the considerable contribution made by the many volunteers who support the scheme through mentoring, moderation, CPD review and the ongoing development of professional standards.

Paying Fees

Accreditation fees can be paid in a variety of ways:

  • In monthly or quarterly instalments by Direct Debit.
  • By invoice sent to your employer
  • By debit of credit card
  • By full or part bursary – for instance Icon Scotland members may be eligible for a part-bursary from the Mel Houston fund.

Payments can also be split between two sources – e.g. invoice and bursary etc.

Fees must be arranged at the point of application. When submitting your form on the Icon website you will be given the opportunity to choose your payment method

Please note the following:

  • If you select the ‘Credit / Debit Card’ option, the full £950 will be taken immediately. Please only select this option if you are happy to pay in full at the time of application.
  • If you are unsure which option you intend to use, or are splitting payments between multiple sources, select ‘Invoice’ and the Icon Skills Team can contact you to discuss payment methods.

If a payment is taken and the candidate does not pass the triage stage, all money will be repaid to the candidate.

Reassessment fees

Fees for reassessments are staggered depending on the number of standards requiring reassessment. These are:

  • Resit of portfolio only: £150
  • Resit following Professional Discussion:
  • 1 to 10 criteria: £200
  • 11 to 20 criteria: £350
  • 20 + criteria: £500
