Join us at the Crafts Council Gallery for an illuminating lecture and reception celebrating the power and purpose of conservation.
In Icon's seventh annual lecture Jane explores the reasons behind why we do conservation. Conservation work can be meticulous, painful, technical, skilful and mesmerising. Hidden from view, it is often described as ‘behind the scenes’ or ‘like magic’ but this doesn’t explain why we do it. To shed more light into the amazing world of conservation, this crowd sourced lecture will explore the question ‘why do I do conservation’. In answering that question perhaps, we can learn more about why conservation is so necessary in this world. It promises to deliver some eye-opening insights from conservation legends and hopefully make you talk about conservation in a whole new way.
As a recognised thought-leader in the conservation community, Jane is the Secretary General of the International Institute of Conservation (IIC) and has long been an active supporter of Icon. This includes playing a foundational role in developing professional accreditation. Professor of Conservation at Cardiff University, Jane is a passionate educator and academic embedded in practice. Throughout her career, she has challenged traditional structures of conservation decision-making, supported sustainability practices, and collaborated with conservation professionals on communication and influence within the field.
Get involved and please share your own #WhyDoIDoCOnservation on your social media and get the conversation going.
The lecture will take place at the Crafts Council Gallery in London on Thursday 6th November, from 6 PM to 7 PM as part of the Winter Reception, an evening of connection, reflection, and inspiration. In person tickets are £25 for Icon members and £35 for non-members.
Online streaming for the Annual Lecture remains free for Icon members. If you would like to attend online, please register for an online ticket at the booking stage. You will receive an access link from [email protected] the day before the event.
