Icon wishes the National Trust Happy Birthday on its 125th anniversary.
Founded on 12 January 1895, the National Trust has become Europe’s largest conservation charity, with almost 6 million members.
Director General Hilary McGrady announced a year of celebrations to mark the anniversary. Caring for the Trust’s buildings and collections will remain “core” to the Trust’s mission with an average £2.5 million invested to carrying out vital conservation work every week throughout the celebratory year.
Icon applauds the Trust’s commitment to conservation. As a custodian of countless national treasures, the National Trust’s support for the conservation staff and projects that care for these objects is vital to ensuring current and future generations can access and enjoy our heritage.
The Knole Conservation Studio demonstrates the Trust's continued dedication and innovative approach to its mission. Open to the public, the studio allows visitors to spot priceless treasures waiting to be conserved but also experience conservation in action.
