Icon26 Group Event: Removed, Remodelled, Relocated (Remixed)

Building on the theme of our 2025 conference “Removed, Remodelled, Relocated”, Icon Stained Glass Groups are delighted to welcome two further speakers to deliver talks on the theme as part of the Icon26 online programme.

Moving Light: The Displacement and Transformation of Lyse Charland Favretti’s Stained Glass Works (1976-2025)
Franck Calard will guide us through the complex journeys of stained glass windows created by Quebecer artist and master glazier Lyse Charland Favretti (b. 1948), focusing on several works that have been displaced, repurposed, or transformed from their original architectural settings. Through a series of case studies, this talk will examine how Favretti’s works have experienced spatial and contextual transitions across religious, civic, and private domains.

“It is not a matter of predicting the future, but of being prepared for it.” Is digital conservation our only chance to save the entire cultural heritage?
Maximilian Berkel will discuss how digital conservation can be applied to the medium of stained glass, particularly in the case of church closures causing catastrophic loss to the heritage. From traditional data-driven inventories to 3D architectural documentation to new video techniques, this talk will explore the current situation for stained glass loss in Germany and consider how we can ensure standardised digital conservation in a ‘worst-case scenario’.

The webinar will be composed of two separate twenty/twenty five minute talks, with time for Q&A at the end of each.
