The ICON Stained Glass Group’s next Glass Half Full session will focus on the newly proposed HSE lead regulations and what they may mean in practice for stained glass conservators.
Following recent committee discussions, there is widespread concern that the regulations, as currently drafted, are overly prescriptive and may not reflect the safe, well‑managed working practices already embedded within our sector. There is also concern that the proposals could make working with lead impossible for many conservators and may have a disproportionate impact on women.
This session will:
- Provide a brief overview of the HSE lead consultation
- Share practical tips and best practice for protecting yourself and others when working with lead
- Support conservators in understanding and engaging with the consultation process
- Encourage informed, confident responses from across the sector
