I am an accredited conservator with the Institute of Conservation (Icon) specialising in metalwork of all types and multi disciplined complex conservation projects.
I have 47 years experience in the conservation profession, qualifying as a Silversmith from Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1979, working as a metals conservator with Peter Smith R&R Ltd then Plowden & Smith before founding my conservation practice, Richard Rogers Conservation Ltd in 2005, the practice was sold in 2025 and subsequently the new owners decided to close the business after a short time.
Currently the founder and owner of a new company Conservation Consultants Ltd based in Leatherhead, Surrey. As one of the leading specialists in the metalwork conservation profession the practice provides a professional service for museums, private collectors, galleries and institutions. I have a proven track record for the implementation and completion of complex conservation projects, both large and small, together with my small team of conservators and specialists. We carry out work in the United Kingdom and worldwide. Conservation collection surveys and consultancy are a large part of our work the most recent being for York Minster and the National Trust as ongoing projects.

After fire broke out at Clandon Park, Surrey in 2015 including Surrey Infantry Museum being destroyed. January 2026 work commenced restoring the 2 silver staff’s and the remains of the head for another staff which subsequently was found to be silver plated bronze. The silver was severely distorted, solder joints were destroyed from the heat and much of the silver burnt beyond recognition. Innovative metalworking techniques were used during the repairs.

Bletchley Park, Hollerith Card Punch Machine
It was a pleasure working with Bletchley Park Trust, Will Kirk and the team recently for the BBC series Repair Shop on the Road broadcast recently, filming the restoration of a Hollerith Card Punch machine. The Hollerith machine was common technology used in the 1940’s. The machines were used to encode data on cards, which were placed into the machine and manually punched.

The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, Arms & Armour
We carried out a conservation condition survey for the historic arms and armour in the collection at The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. We continued the project with the conservation cleaning and treatment of the 18 half suits of armour displayed in the Dining Hall. The armour dated from the 16th Century to the middle of the 17th Century.

The Royal Anglian Regiment, Silver Collection Survey
An audit and condition survey and report for the entire collection of 1100 silver objects in the collection. The report included valuations, recommendations for handling and storage together with an urgency rating for conservation treatments. The data and photos for the entire entire collection was entrees into a new CatalogIT database for use by the regiment and links for future research and collection inventory checking.
