Orbis Conservation "proud" to receive Museums + Heritage Award

The 2020 Museums + Heritage Award for Restoration/ Conservation has been awarded to Plymouth City Council and Orbis Conservation for the The Box Naval Figureheads Collection.

01 Oct 2020

Orbis Conservation restored the collection of 14 large nineteenth century ship figureheads for the opening of the Box Plymouth, a new arts and heritage complex and the flagship project of the UK’s Mayflower 400 commemorations.

[the project] enabled us to use all of our conservation and problem solving skills to their utmost!

The judges chose the project for its “bold ambition” and the “hugely complex undertaking that was required” to save the collection and to enable it to be put onto public display for generations to come. On loan from the National Museums of the Royal Navy, the figureheads form a key element of the new arts centre’s permanent exhibitions.

“We are really proud to receive this recognition for what was an exciting and all encompassing project for us. It was a great experience and enabled us to use all of our conservation and problem solving skills to their utmost! We are thankful to our excellent team here at Orbis and also for all at The Box.” Orbis Conservation commented.

Stay tuned for more information about the incredible project, as told by Orbis Conservation!
