29 Mar 2021

Icon Chief Executive Sara Crofts was invited by the Italian Ministry of Culture to participate as a guest speaker in the G20 webinar “Addressing the Climate Crisis through Culture: Preserving Cultural Heritage and Supporting the Green Transition” on 12 April 2021.

The event contributes to the first G20 Culture Ministerial Meeting, organised by the Italian Presidency of G20. It brings together experts from G20 countries to provide the latest evidence on climate change scenarios and their likely impacts on cultural heritage.

The objective of the webinar is to

  1. Reach an agreement on a mechanism for systematic exchange of strategies, experiences, tools and practices aimed at alleviating the impact of climate change on cultural heritage.
  2. Provide recommendations on how to ensure a better representation of culture and cultural heritage in the climate change discourse and policy, and integrate environmental sustainability and climate issues into cultural policymaking and practice and vice-versa.
  3. Improve the awareness of culture and cultural heritage professionals, institutions, the civil society and local communities about climate-related threats and promote socially responsible behaviours and practices.

Sara will be delivering a talk on communicating the role of cultural heritage in climate action during Session 2 “Culture and Cultural Heritage as Drivers of Climate Action.”
