Call for Abstracts: Northwest Conservators Group

Save the date and call for abstracts for 'Don’t Panic! Managing Hazardous Materials in Collections and Museums'

Many of us will have encountered hazardous materials in collections and museums; whether these are inherent in objects and storage and packing materials, the legacy of historic treatments and storage environments, or in the fabric of museum buildings.

Arsenic? Mercury?  Mould? Explosives? Compressed gas cannisters? Asbestos? Radioactivity? These can be quite daunting to deal with – for our own health and safety and the safety of collections.

We would like to hear about your experiences identifying and managing hazardous materials in conservation and museum projects. Have you had to seek external expertise? Navigate relationships with other stakeholders? Have you had to deal with emergency situations and tight timeframes? This is your opportunity to share these with colleagues.
