The Painter-Stainers’ Livery Company is delighted to invite you to a unique and special afternoon with Lucia Scalisi. Formerly senior conservator at The Victoria and Albert
Formerly senior conservator at The Victoria and Albert Museum, Lucia will be describing the fascinating process of her restoration of the exquisite painted panels that are such a notable decorative feature of the Lord Mayor of London’s state coach, said to be the oldest ceremonial vehicle in regular use in the world.
Lucia brings her experience, forensic analysis and technical skill to bear on a unique set of paintings created by the celebrated coach painter, Giovanni Cipriani. The vehicle was commissioned in 1757, constructed in Holborn and designed by the architect Sir Robert Taylor, who was also responsible for the distinguished pediment of The Mansion House.
The afternoon will consist of an illustrated lecture, question and answer session and an opportunity to meet Lucia. Refreshments included.
