This seminar will explore the use of emulsions for the conservation cleaning of painted surfaces over the past 30 years. Using examples from the literature and from personal experience, Matthew Cushman will explain the science of emulsions, practical use cases for various types of emulsions, and advantages and disadvantages of these systems.
There will be a 55 minute presentation followed by 15 minutes of discussion.
Matt Cushman is Conservator of Paintings and Affiliated Assistant Professor at the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation, where he teaches fundamentals of paintings conservation and the application of scientific principles in conservation practice.
