Heritage Collections at the University of Edinburgh has two conservation studios in the central campus – one at St Cecilia's Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum and the other in the Main Library. Both spaces have been recently designed by and for conservators, and are now occupied by a newly-formed Conservation & Collections Management team.
Both sites offer opportunity to see how the studios have been created to meet the particular needs of the University’s collections of rare books, archives and manuscripts, musical instruments and artworks, and to talk with the team. In the Main Library you’ll also see how we provide vocational experience for the University’s students and a new workshop space adjacent to the studio, that supports all collections-based work. In St Cecilia’s Hall focus will be on the conservation of musical instruments for teaching, research and engagement (including, in some instances, performance), and the sharing of expertise through Icon’s Collaborative Conservation Skills Internship Programme.
