Icon24 Photographic Materials Group - Photography Conservation at National Portrait Gallery: Studio & Cold Store tour

The Icon Photographic Materials Group is delighted  to announce, as part of Icon24 Conference, a day event at the newly reopened  National Portrait Gallery.

For the first time in the NPG’s history, photography was also integrated into the permanent galleries. During the same period, the NPG also undertook a major overhaul of its photographic negatives stores. In this event, the NPG’s Photographic Conservator, Sarah Allen, will talk about the conservation considerations during both projects, and will give attendees a tour of the newly created laboratory and stores.

9:15 Arrival & registration at NPG Reception (please note this is opposite the main gallery entrance at 39-40, Orange Street)

9.30 tea and coffee

9.45 talk (about 45 minutes)

10.30 – 1st group tour of stores

11.15 – 2nd group tour of stores

12.00 – 3rd group tour of stores

Tea/coffee will be provided to attendees.

Photographic Materials Conservator, Lux & Livre Private Conservation Studio National Portrait Gallery

Sarah has worked as a Photographic Materials conservator for over 18 years. Since 2010 she has run a private studio - Lux & Livre - with book conservator Clare Goulbourn and other collaborators, working with a range of public sector and private clients. Sarah also acts as Photograph Conservator for the National Portrait Gallery.
