This event will be a rare opportunity to see how Royal Collection objects, historic interiors and the Grade I listed Palace building have been protected during the 10-year, £369 million Buckingham Palace Reservicing Programme.
The visit will start with a brief presentation to introduce the scope of the construction project and our approach to preventive/project conservation, followed by a short tour of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace.
We will show works in progress and completed areas, such as reserviced State Rooms, new lifts and lavatories, and cover how we keep the building operational throughout the works.
We hope this event will be ideal for those embarking on a construction or retrofit project in a heritage building, allowing time for questions, knowledge sharing, and reflection with other conservation professionals from across the sector and Royal Household.
Part of the tour will enter a live construction site, where flooring may be uneven. All personal protective equipment will be provided. Attendees will be asked to provide additional information on the booking form, such as shoe sizes and any access requirements (a step free route can be provided).
