Archaeology Group: One chest and 100 sabres - or is it 101?

Angela Middleton

Angela Middleton holds a degree in archaeological conservation from the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin and an MSc in Maritime Conservation Science from the University of Portsmouth. She worked for the Newport Medieval Ship Project and the Michael Faraday Museum of the Royal Institution before joining Historic England as an archaeological conservator in 2007. Here she is responsible to advise on and undertake research and investigative conservation on material retrieved from land and marine sites. She has a special interest in the conservation of waterlogged organic materials. She has been working on material recovered from England’s protected wreck sites, most notably the London and the Rooswijk.

Carola Del Mese

Carola Del Mese holds a postgraduate diploma, a Masters in Metal Conservation from West Dean College, and a degree in three-dimensional glass craftsmanship and design from Wolverhampton University. Following her Batchelors degree she undertook a 25 year career as a theatrical prop maker, working for theatres, opera houses, theme parks and TV, having apprenticed at Glyndebourne Opera House. Prior to her conservation studies, Carola took on a three-month conservation placement at Brighton Royal Pavilion and completed funded placements at Fishbourne Roman Palace, and Worthing Museum. She is now working on the Rooswijk project in the Historic England labs at Fort Cumberland for MSDS Marine.

Heather Stewart

Heather Stewart obtained a Master of Arts in Archaeology at the University of Glasgow followed by a Masters in Museum and Archaeological Conservation at the University of Durham. She has worked as project conservator for the Esmerelda Project in Oman, as a conservation technician for the David Livingston Trust in Scotland and as project conservator for the Rooswijk at Fort Cumberland in Portsmouth. She currently works as a conservator for AOC Archaeology in Scotland.
