Sustainability Network & AIC: Conversations with Change Makers - Small Museums

A conversation for small museums and archives to help you reduce your energy consumption

Join Icon Sustainability Network and AIC in a conversation on helping to reduce energy consumption in small museums and archives.

4pm-5pm BST - Online

The energy used to heat, cool, de/humidify, and light buildings is one of the biggest environmental impacts of the cultural heritage sector.  After decades of regarding one-size-fits-all, non-fluctuating indoor environmental parameters as the gold standard, the field is now questioning the value of this approach.

The AIC Sustainability Committee, in collaboration with the Icon Sustainability Network, is excited to announce the next in a series of webinars during which we chat with conservators and allied professionals who are implementing changes to reduce the energy consumption of their buildings. The webinar will start with a pre-recorded presentation by Sarah Lewery, Conservator, Churchill Archives, UK about their trial switch off, what they learnt from that, what they now do, the use of packaging/boxing for environmental control and about waste/re-use, with time for questions. Following this there will be a discussion with Elie Hughes, Curator, Ely Museum, UK and Deborah Walton, Regional Conservation Officer, University Cambridge Museums, UK covering strategies used in small museums to reduce energy consumption. You are actively encouraged to ask questions.
