Jane Henderson trained as an archaeological conservator during her BSc at Cardiff University. After graduating in 1986 she moved on to a succession of contract posts before finding work in the Council of Museums in Wales, first as the antiquities conservator and then as Conservation Manager. After many happy years acting as conservation advisor to the museums in Wales, Jane moved back into studying taking the newly established MSc in Collections Care at Cardiff University in 1999. She funded this move by establishing a consultancy and carried on in this role and working part time for the Heritage Lottery Fund until she returned to Cardiff University.

Jane is now a Senior Lecturer Tutor in conservation teaching on the BSc in conservation and the MSc courses in Collections Care, Professional Conservation and Conservation Practice.  Her main interests are in collections care, conservation education and professionalism, decision making and how conservators influence outcomes in the institutions in which they work. Jane has been an active member in the Icon team bringing Icon's first ever conference to Wales, representing Icon on European standards technical committee,  organising the twice yearly conservation in Wales conferences and has represented conservators on the committee of the Welsh Federation of Museums and Art Galleries since it was established. Jane is currently on the editorial panel of the Journal.

Jane is an accredited conservator and a fellow of IIC.
