Categories of Membership
 

Our membership categories are tailored to the requirements of our members.

Which Icon membership is right for you?

Accredited Members are Full members who have chosen to submit to a rigorous peer-review process of professional accreditation which confirms that applicants meet the highest professional standards. Accredited Members have the same rights and receive the same benefits as Full Members, but have the additional status of approval by their peers. If they are engaged in providing a commercial conservation service, their studio or workshop is eligible for consideration for inclusion on the Conservation Register - this status confers additional benefits.
This category is not open to new members.


Full Members
may be professional conservator-restorers of cultural heritage who are trained and qualified and practising, also conservation scientists or academics and trainers in conservation. Full Members have voting rights and may stand for election. They receive two Journals and six issues of Icon News per year and the regular electronic briefings, Iconnect and Iconnect Jobs. They have full web access and discounts on conferences and services.


Supporter members is for individuals with a general or specific interest in conservation but who may not be a practising conservator, they will receive six issues of Icon News per year, plus all our electronic briefings including Iconnect and Iconnect Jobs.  Supporter members are eligible for group membership, have full web access and can obtain discounts on conferences and services. They have no voting rights and may not stand for election.

A sub-group of Supporter membership is for Organisational members who wish to subscribe to Icon News only*.  Supporter members will receive six copies of Icon News per year, plus all the electronic briefings.

Technician Members
are those who work in directly conservation-related activities or under the supervision of a conservator-restorer. They receive 6 issues of Icon News per year plus the electronic briefing Iconnect. They have access to Groups membership including full web access but have no voting rights and may not stand for election.  This category of membership is only open to members taking part in Icon's Conservation Technician Qualification programme.


Student & Trainee Members are those who are enrolled in a course of relevant study or training, full-time or part-time. Students, interns and trainees receive most benefits of Full Membership but have no voting rights and may not stand for election.  


Graduate members are eligible for the discounted Full Member rate.  Graduate membership is available for a three year period and must be paid by quarterly direct debit only - it is not open to new members, Graduate members must have been a Student member for a minimum of one full membership year immediately prior to graduation and the Graduate membership must be continuous Graduate members receive most benefits of Full membership but have no voting rights.

 


Organisation membership is open to university departments, colleges, libraries, archives and museums as well as companies.  Organisational members receive both issues of the Journal of the Institute of Conservation and six copies of Icon News per year - addressed to one nominated member of staff. Organisation members have no voting rights.
