We believe that work-based learning helps supplement formal academic training and provides entry routes to the profession for those from non-traditional backgrounds. On these pages you will find details of the 2006-2012 HLF-supported programme and also other internships funded by external providers which may come up at various times throughout the year.
The Heritage Lottery Fund granted £1Million to Icon in 2005 to deliver a new internship scheme in conservation. This has helped 54 new conservators launch their careers over the last four years. In October 2009 HLF agreed to extend Icon's scheme up to March 2012, allowing Icon to offer another 20 placements - to be adverised in April and October 2010.
