About this Group

Stained glass is predominantly a medium located in an architectural context, acting as an integral part of the building envelope, a weather-shield as well as a work of art. Members of the Stained Glass Group have therefore decided to remain separate from the larger Glass & Ceramics Group (although many of our members also participate in the work of this and other groups). In common with other ICON specialist groups, we are committed to the sharing and dissemination of new and current research and best practice with members of the Stained Glass Group, with the wider stained glass field and with the conservation community at large. To this end, we support in particular the Guidelines for the Conservation and Restoration of Stained Glass of the International Corpus Vitrearum (second edition, Nuremburg, 2004): http://www.cvma.ac.uk/content/conserv/

Members may also be interested in the on-line magazine Vidimus, which appears monthly and is free to subscribe, reporting regularly on international events, publications and conservation projects (www.vidimus.org). In its own words: ‘Vidimus is the only on-line magazine devoted exclusively to stained glass. We hope to encourage interest in medieval and later stained glass, and to promote the work of the CVMA (GB), the national survey of medieval stained glass.’
