Since 2006, Icon has managed the UK-wide conservation Training Bursary Scheme funded with a £1.49M grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. By September 2012, in addition to 67 HLF-supported Interns, 18 people will have completed placements based on Icon’s Skills in Practice Framework funded from external sources. In May 2012, Icon was awarded a grant increase of £968,800 to support the delivery of 36 additional internships over three years. Icon continues to seek external funding to support additional internships.
Icon has also developed a Conservation Technician’s Qualification, a level-3 qualification, delivered and assessed in the workplace by participating employers. Icon is currently rolling out this programme and is in the process of mounting the qualification on the National Qualification Framework.
