Icon's first ever conference will be held in Cardiff, Wales' vibrant capital city, to consider the broad theme of UK Conservation - past, present and future.
The conference aims to:
- Advance and share knowledge about conservation issues in and beyond Icon's members
- To have an enjoyable conference where people have time to talk and network
- To leave Icon stronger as an organisation
The first full day of the conference will comprise of a one day plenary session for those attending the conference and will focus on the two themes - 'evidence based decision making in conservation' and 'a sustainable future for UK conservation'.
The second day will provide the opportunity for the Icon groups to host specialist half day seminars.

Delegates will be able to enjoy events at some of Cardiff's most prestigious venues. The conference will open with a welcome reception at the National Museum of Wales on the evening of Wednesday 24 March and an evening reception will be held on Thursday 25 March at Cardiff Castle where delegates will have the opportunity to have guided tours of the recently conserved interiors. On the afternoon of Wednesday 24 March delegates may also take advantage of an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the newly constructed Glamorgan Record Office in Cardiff before it opens to the public. Alternatively there will be a PACR clinic for PACR candidates at the National Museum of Wales.

There is also a small sum available for travel bursaries for speakers. The priority for allocating the bursaries will be for speakers that are students, from the private sector or early career professionals. For information about other bursaries that may be available, please look at our Facebook group.

The poster session will showcase the work of Icon's student members. The deadline for electronic submission will be 15 January 2010. Posters will be placed around the conference venue with delegates being asked to vote for their favourite. A judging panel will also be studying the entries to select their winner.
